Description: In the San Francisco Bay Area. Provides immediate support to battered women and children and increases the awareness of the Asian Indian community of the causes and effects of domestic violence on the whole family.

Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence

Description: In San Francisco. A national network whose mission is to eliminate domestic violence in Asian & Pacific Islander communities by increasing awareness about the extent and depth of the problem; making culturally specific issues visible; strengthening community models of prevention and intervention; identifying and expanding resources; informing and promoting research and policy; and deepening our understanding and analyses of the issues surrounding violence against women. Located in San Fransisco.

Asian Women's Shelter
Description: A comprehensive shelter program in San Francisco that provides safety, food, shelter, advocacy, and other resources to assist women in rebuilding violence-free lives for themselves and their children.

Donaldina Cameron House
Description: In San Francisco (Chinatown). Cameron House has a domestic violence asistance program that provides mutilingual services to Chinese, Vietnamese and other Asian battered women in San Francisco. Services include: counseling, battered women's support group, domestic violence intervention and legal services for battered women.

Maitri - San Francisco
Description: Maitri is a free, confidential, nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, that helps South Asian women facing domestic violence, emotional abuse or family conflict. We provide peer support and referrals to legal help, emergency shelters and counselors. Maitri believes the best human relationships are characterized by mutual respect, open communication, and individual empowerment. To that end, Maitri's activities are designed to help South Asian women make informed decisions about the lives they lead.

Narika
Description: In Berkeley, California. Narika was founded in 1992 to address the problem of domestic violence in the South Asian community. Embracing the notion of women's empowerment, Narika set out to address the unmet needs of abused South Asian women by providing advocacy, support, information, and referrals within a culturally sensitive model. We serve women who trace their origins to Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and diasporic communities such as Fiji and the Caribbean.

Description: Since its establishment in 1991, SAHARA has evolved into an innovative, dynamic non-profit organization serving South Asian residents of Southern California. SAHARA is committed to serving growing community of South Asian residents in need, with information, referrals, and support services

Shimtuh
Description: Shimtuh (literally, "resting place" in Korean) is the first Korean domestic violence program in the California Bay Area. It is a joint project of the Asian Women's Shelter and the Korean Community Center of East Bay.

Asian Pacific Women's Center

Description: A nonprofit organization located in Los Angeles, dedicated to the development of affordable, transitional housing for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. The Center's Transitional Housing Program provides shelter, social services, and referrals to women and their children who have been out of an abusive relationship for more than one month.


District of Columbia

AHSA, Inc. (Asian Women's Self Help Association)
Description: ASHA, which means "Hope" in several South Asian languages, is a non-profit women's organization committed to ending all forms of violence against women and enhancing the status of South Asian women living in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.


Georgia

Raksha, Inc.
Description: Raksha, meaning "protection" in several South Asian languages, is a Georgia-based nonprofit organization for the South Asian Community. With approximately 70,000 South Asians in the metropolitan Atlanta area, Raksha's mission is to promote a stronger and healthier community through free and confidential direct services, education and advocacy.

Apna Ghar
Description: In Chicago, a domestic violence shelter serving primarily Asian women and children.

Asian Human Services (AHS)
Description: Asian Human Services (AHS) exists to provide quality and compassionate services to the Asian-American community of metropolitan Chicago.


Massachussetts

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence
Description: In Boston. The first battered women's shelter in New England specifically for Asian women. The mission of the organization is to eliminate family violence and to strengthen Asian families and communities.

Saheli, Friendship for South Asian Women (Boston)
Description: A group dedicated to helping South Asian women in Boston and surrounding areas.

Michigan

Michigan Indian Asian Family Services (MAIFS)
Description: MAIFS is an organization offering crisis intervention for Asian Indians living in the metropolitan Detroit area


Minnesota

Asian Women United of Minnesota
Description: A community-based, nonprofit organization committed to ending violence against Asian women and children, empowering Asian women and girls, and building stronger and safer communities.


New Jersey

Manavi
Description: Manavi, founded in 1985 by six South Asian women, is a non-profit organization for women who trace their cultural heritage to Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Manavi's goal is to increase awareness of women's rights in society and encourage social change to end all violence against them. Manavi provides necessary and critical services to women of South Asian descent during crisis. 


New York

Korean American Family Services Center
Description: A nonprofit organization established to promote healthy relationships and address domestic violence issues in Korean American families in the New York metropolitan area through a wide range of bilingual programs and services.

New York Asian Women's Center
Description: The New York Asian Women's Center works with women and children whose lives are affected by domestic violence, to enable them to live safe and independent lives. As the first domestic violence organization to serve Asian communities in New York City, and one of the first in the nation, the Center recognizes that ending violence is a systematic issue and cannot be solved on an isolated, individual level.

Sakhi
Description: Sakhi for South Asian Women is a community-based organization in the New York metropolitan area committed to ending the exploitation and violence against women of South Asian origin.


North Carolina

KIRAN: Domestic Violence and Crisis Services for South Asians in North Carolina

Description: KIRAN is a multi-cultural, non-religious, community based, South Asian organization that promotes the self-reliance and empowerment of South Asian women who are in crisis through outreach, peer support, and referrals in a confidential manner.


Oregon

SAWERA - South Asian Women's Empowerment and Resource Alliance
Description: Provides free and confidential culturally-sensitive services to South Asian women and children victims of domestic violence in Greater Portland, Oregon.


Texas

Asians Against Domestic Abuse (AADA)
Description: Located in Houston, their mission is to prevent violence against women and to strengthen and promote equal and healthy family relations within the Asian community through public awareness, support systems, community empowerment, and collaborations with organizations sharing similar goals.

DAYA
Description: Located in Houston, DAYA aims to promote healthy and harmonious family relationships in the South-Asian community by increasing awareness and providing peer support, information and referrals to women and children who are in crisis yet attempting to effect positive changes in their lives.

Description: A nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas, that provides assistance to Asian families dealing with domestic violence and abuse. You are currently at the Saheli website.

Asian & Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center
Description: In Seattle. Their mission is to prevent violence against women through community organizing and education; provide safe, culturally relevant services for women, youth, and children; and create housing resources for families who face domestic and sexual violence, and victimization from human trafficking in Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Chaya
Description: Chaya is a community based nonprofit organization established in 1996 to serve South Asian women in times of crisis and need, and to raise awareness of domestic violence issues. While there are excellent agencies that provide services for Southeast Asians in Seattle, Chaya is the only organization that specifically addresses the needs of South Asian women.

Refugee Women's Alliance (REWA)
Description: A nonprofit, multi-ethnic organization that promotes inclusion, independence, personal leadership and strong communities by providing refugee and immigrant women and families with culturally appropriate services. 

Korean Women's Association Domestic Violence Program

Chinese Information and Service Center
Description: A multi-service agency whose mission is to assist and empower the people in the Seattle/King County Asian community, focusing on the Chinese community, by providing information, referral, and direct social and support services.

International Community Health Services (ICHS)
Description: In Seattle. Specifically targets its services to the Asian/Pacific Islander communities, yet strives to serve the health needs of all individuals, in a manner sensitive to the patient's language and cultural needs. ICHS provides high quality health care with a focus on education, prevention and early intervention. We also serve as an educational and advocacy resource in the larger health care community, based on our experience in working with culturally diverse communities.
