From the Family Advocate:
During July 2006, SAHELI received 58 calls on the
helpline. Calls are usually from victims/survivors, existing clients,
family members or friends of victims, advocates from other agencies,
potential volunteers, and others who want more information about
SAHELI.
Of these calls 2 were from new clients who are receiving
ongoing advocacy services, and 10 were from new clients who received
one-time referral assistance.
Furthermore, SAHELI staff and advocates provided
38 face-to-face sessions for 9 clients in the month of July.
From the Community Educator:
In July, SAHELI continued to educate the Austin
community in matters of domestic violence and sexual assault. We
presented to the Political Asylum Project of Austin and the Williamson
County Crisis Center, discussing the dynamics of domestic violence
in Asian/Asian-American communities.
SAHELI for Asian Families hosted an Asian Community
Exchange, in which leaders within the Asian community were invited
to discuss pertinent social and cultural issues affecting Asian
communities within the Austin area. Through this exchange, we gathered
valuable information from the Asian community about how we can better
tailor our resources to this group in the Austin area.
Volunteer Satisfaction Survey!
Volunteers! Let us know how we’re doing! If
you haven’t already, please take a moment to fill out this
